इंदिरा एकादशी व्रत कथा

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की भक्ति से भाव विह्वल होकर अर्जुन ने कहा- ""हे प्रभु! अब आप कृपा कर आश्विन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी की कथा को कहिए। इस एकादशी का क्या नाम है तथा इसका व्रत करने से कौन-सा फल मिलता है। कृपा कर विधानपूर्वक कहिए।""

इस भजन से मिलती है कष्टों से मुक्ति: तूने अजब रचा भगवान

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने अर्जुन से कहा - ""हे धनुर्धर! आश्विन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी का नाम इन्दिरा है। इस एकादशी का व्रत करने से सभी पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं। नरक में गए हुए पितरों का उद्धार हो जाता है। हे अर्जुन! इस एकादशी की कथा के श्रवण मात्र से ही मनुष्य को अनंत फल की प्राप्ति होती है। मैं यह कथा सुनाता हूँ, तुम ध्यानपूर्वक श्रवण करो-

सतयुग में महिष्मती नाम की नगरी में इन्द्रसेन नाम का एक प्रतापी राजा राज्य करता था। वह पुत्र, पौत्र, धन-धान्य आदि से पूर्ण था। उसके शत्रु सदैव उससे भयभीत रहते थे। एक दिन राजा अपनी राज्य सभा में सुखपूर्वक बैठा था कि महर्षि नारद वहां आए। नारदजी को देखकर राजा आसन से उठा, प्रणाम करके उन्हें आदर सहित आसन दिया। तब महर्षि नारद ने कहा- 'हे राजन! आपके राज्य में सब कुशल से तो हैं? मैं आपकी धर्मपरायणता देखकर अत्यंत प्रसन्न हूँ।'

भगवान विष्णु जी का सबसे शक्तिशाली स्त्रोत्र: श्री हरि स्तोत्रम्

राजा ने कहा - 'हे देवऋषि! आपकी कृपा से मेरे राज्य में सब -कुशलपूर्वक हैं तथा आपकी कृपा से मेरे सभी यज्ञ कर्म आदि सफल हो गए हैं। हे महर्षि अब आप कृपा कर यह बताएं कि आपका यहां आगमन किस प्रयोजन से हुआ है? मैं आपकी क्या सेवा करूं?'

महर्षि नारद ने कहा - 'हे नृपोत्तम! मुझे एक महान विस्मय हो रहा है कि एक बार जब मैं ब्रह्मलोक से यमलोक गया था, तब मैंने यमराज की सभा में तुम्हारे पिता को बैठे देखा। तुम्हारे पिता महान ज्ञानी, दानी तथा धर्मात्मा थे, मगर एकादशी के व्रत के बिगड़ जाने के कारण यह यमलोक को गए हैं। तुम्हारे पिता ने तुम्हारे लिए एक संदेश भेजा है।'

राजा ने उत्सुकता से पूछा - 'क्या संदेश है महर्षि? कृपा कर यथाशीघ्र कहें।'

सबसे ज्यादा सुना जानेवाला भजन: हरी बोल हरी बोल

राजन तुम्हारे पिता ने कहा है - 'महर्षि! आप मेरे पुत्र इन्द्रसेन, जो कि महिष्मती नगरी का राजा है, के पास जाकर एक संदेश देने की कृपा करें कि मेरे किसी पूर्व जन्म के बुरे कर्म के कारण ही मुझे यह लोक मिला है। यदि मेरा पुत्र आश्विन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की इन्दिरा एकादशी का व्रत करे और उस व्रत के फल को मुझे दे दे तो मेरी मुक्ति हो जाए। मैं भी इस लोक से छूटकर स्वर्गलोक में वास करूं।'

इन्द्रसेन को अपने पिता के यमलोक में पड़े होने की बात सुनकर महान दुख हुआ और उसने नारद से कहा - 'हे नारदजी! यह तो बड़े दुख का समाचार है कि मेरे पिता यमलोक में पड़े हैं। मैं उनकी मुक्ति का उपाय अवश्य करूंगा। आप मुझे इन्दिरा एकादशी व्रत का विधान बताने की कृपा करें।'

भगवान विष्णु जी आरती: ॐ जय जगदीश हरे

नारदजी ने कहा - 'हे राजन! आश्विन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की दशमी के दिन प्रातःकाल श्रद्धापूर्वक स्नान करना चाहिए। इसके उपरांत दोपहर को भी स्नान करना चाहिए। उस समय जल से निकलकर श्रद्धापूर्वक पितरों का श्राद्ध करें और उस दिन एक समय भोजन करें और रात्रि को पृथ्वी पर शयन करें। इसके दूसरे दिन अर्थात एकादशी के दिन नित्यकर्मों से निवृत्त होकर स्नानादि के उपरांत भक्तिपूर्वक व्रत को धारण करें और इस प्रकार संकल्प करें - 'मैं आज निराहार रहूँगा और सभी भोगों का त्याग कर दूंगा। इसके उपरांत अगले दिन भोजन करूंगा। हे ईश्वर! आप मेरी रक्षा करने वाले हैं। आप मेरे उपवास को सम्पूर्ण कराइए।'

इस प्रकार आचरण करके दोपहर को सालिगरामजी की प्रतिमा को स्थापित करें और ब्राह्मण को बुलाकर भोजन कराएं तथा दक्षिणा दें।

भगवान विष्णु जी का सबसे मीठा भजन: ॐ जय जगदीश

भोजन का कुछ हिस्सा गाय को अवश्य दें और भगवान विष्णु का धूप, नैवेद्य आदि से पूजन करें तथा रात्रि को जागरण करें। तदुपरांत द्वादशी के दिन मौन रहकर बंधु-बांधवों सहित भोजन करें। हे राजन! यह इन्दिरा एकादशी के व्रत की विधि है। यदि तुम आलस्य त्यागकर इस एकादशी के व्रत को करोगे तो तुम्हारे पिता अवश्य ही स्वर्ग के अधिकारी बन जाएंगे।'

नारदजी राजा को सब विधान समझाकर आलोप हो गए। राजा ने इन्दिरा एकादशी के आने पर उसका विधानपूर्वक्र व्रत किया। बंधु-बांधवो सहित इस व्रत के करने से आकाश से पुष्पों की वर्षा हुई और राजा के पिता यमलोक से रथ पर चढ़कर स्वर्ग को चले गए।

इस एकादशी के प्रभाव से राजा इन्द्रसेन भी इहलोक में सुख भोगकर अंत में स्वर्गलोक को गया।

भगवान विष्णु जी का सबसे बढ़िया भजन: हर साँस में हो सुमिरन तेरा

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- हे सखा! यह मैंने तुम्हारे सामने इन्दिरा एकादशी के माहात्म्य का वर्णन किया है। इस कथा के पढ़ने व सुनने मात्र से ही सभी पापों का शमन हो जाता है और अंत में मनुष्य स्वर्गलोक का अधिकारी बनता है।""

कथा-सार

मनुष्य जो भी प्रण करे, उसे चाहिए कि वह उसको तन-मन-धन से पूरा करें। किसी भी कार्य का प्रण करके उसे तोड़ना नहीं चाहिए।"

Overwhelmed by the devotion of Lord Krishna, Arjun said - "" Oh Lord! Now please tell the story of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. What is the name of this Ekadashi and what is the result of fasting on it. Please say methodically."

Lord Krishna said to Arjuna - ""O archer! Indira is the name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. By fasting on this Ekadashi all sins are destroyed. The forefathers who have gone to hell are saved. Hey Arjun! Only by listening to the story of this Ekadashi, man gets infinite fruit. I narrate this story, you listen carefully-

In Satyuga, a majestic king named Indrasen used to rule in the city named Mahishmati. He was full of sons, grandsons, wealth-grains etc. His enemies were always afraid of him. One day the king was sitting happily in his Rajya Sabha when Maharishi Narad came there. Seeing Naradji, the king got up from the seat, bowed down and gave him the seat with respect. Then Maharishi Narad said - 'O Rajan! Is everyone well in your kingdom? I am extremely pleased to see your piety.'

The most powerful stotra of Lord Vishnu ji: Shree Hari Stotram

The king said - ' O Devrishi! By your grace everything in my kingdom is doing well and by your grace all my yagya karmas etc. have been successful. Hey Maharishi, now please tell me for what purpose you have come here? What can I do for you?'

Maharishi Narad said - 'O Nripottam! I am getting a great surprise that once I went from Brahmaloka to Yamaloka, then I saw your father sitting in the assembly of Yamraj. Your father was a great scholar, a donor and a pious soul, but he has gone to Yamlok because of breaking the Ekadashi fast. Your father has sent a message for you.'

The king asked curiously - ' What is the message Maharishi? Please say as soon as possible.

Most Listened Bhajan: Hari Bol Hari Bol

Rajan your father has said - ' Maharishi! Please go to my son Indrasen, who is the king of Mahishmati city and convey a message that I have got this world because of my bad deeds in my previous birth. If my son fasts on Indira Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month and gives me the fruit of that fast, then I will be freed. May I also leave this world and live in heaven.'

Indrasen was very sad to hear about his father lying in Yamlok and he said to Narad - 'O Naradji! It is very sad news that my father is lying in Yamalok. I will definitely find a way to get rid of them. You please tell me the law of Indira Ekadashi fast.

Lord Vishnu Ji Aarti: Om Jai Jagdish Hare

Naradji said - 'O Rajan! On the tenth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin, one should bathe early in the morning with devotion. After this, bath should be taken in the afternoon as well. At that time, coming out of the water, perform Shradh of the ancestors with devotion and eat food at one time on that day and sleep on the earth at night. After this, on the second day i.e. Ekadashi, after retiring from daily rituals, observe the fast with devotion and make a resolution in this way - 'I will remain fasting today and will give up all the enjoyments. After this, I will have food the next day. Oh God! You are my protector. You make my fast complete.

By behaving in this way, install the statue of Saligramji in the afternoon and call a Brahmin and feed him and give Dakshina.

Sweetest Bhajan of Lord Vishnu: Om Jai Jagdish

Do give some part of the food to the cow and worship Lord Vishnu with incense, naivedya etc. and stay awake at night. After that, on the day of Dwadashi, keep silence and eat food with your brothers and relatives. Hey Rajan! This is the method of fasting on Indira Ekadashi. If you leave laziness and observe this Ekadashi fast, your father will definitely become the owner of heaven.

Naradji disappeared after explaining all the laws to the king. On the arrival of Indira Ekadashi, the king performed a ritualistic fast for her. By observing this fast along with brothers and sisters, flowers rained from the sky and the king's father went to heaven on a chariot from Yamlok.

Due to the effect of this Ekadashi, King Indrasen also went to heaven after enjoying happiness in this world.

Lord Krishna said - O friend! I have described the greatness of Indira Ekadashi in front of you. Only by reading and listening to this story, all sins are absolved and in the end man becomes entitled to heaven.
